Are you interested in open design, digital fabrication and open hardware? Would you like to learn how to work in a Fablab and use its machines? Waag’s Fablab Amsterdam is regularly looking for a hands-on intern to support ongoing projects and our open day. Moreover, we provide you with tools, machines and support to develop your own creative project.
Fablab Amsterdam is a place for creativity, craftsmanship and digital experiments, where you can make pretty much anything. Being one of the first Fab Labs of Europe, it provides tools and machines to build sensors, electronic circuits or 3D print an array of beautiful products.
At Waag, we are interested in new forms of recycling and sustainable use of materials. We encourage interns te develop a concept or project within these topics. Do you have your own project, research question or the perfect case to develop in Fablab Amsterdam? We are open to discuss the possibilities and welcome critical makers with interesting projects.
Fablabs are a global network of local labs, enabling invention by providing access to tools for digital fabrication. A Fablab is a platform for learning and innovation: a place to play, to create, to learn, to invent and collaborate with others. Our Fablab is a member of a global community of learners, educators, technologists, researchers, makers and innovators. Over ten years ago, Waag opened the doors of Fablab Amsterdam.
On an open day we explain how the machines work, show what visitors can make in a Fablab, and share the philosophy behind the maker movement and digital fabrication. As a Fablab intern you will welcome visitors during the open days, answer questions and discuss possibilities.
We will teach you how to use the main machines: laser cutter, CNC milling machine, 3D printers, vinyl cutter and others. You will have access to the Fablab during working hours and a mentor throughout your internship. You are able to develop your own project and produce prototypes. Additionally we will introduce you to the international Fablab network and Amsterdam maker scene.
An internship where you can learn a lot in a short time and where you can work in a young, dynamic and flexible work environment. You have a lot of responsibility and there is plenty of room for your own initiative and creativity. The fee for this internship is € 300,- per month on the basis of 40 hours per week. The duration and period of this internship can be determined in consultation. We prefer a six month period. It is expected you will be a member of the team for a minimum of 32 hours per week.
Waag develops creative technology for social innovation. We do research, develop concepts, pilots and prototypes and act as an intermediary between the arts, science and the media. We work a lot with parties in the cultural, public and private sectors.
